Leafpoint Analytics Dashboard
Overview
Our team was tasked to build an MVP analytics dashboard for Leafpoint, a digital health startup marketing to insurance. This solution allows payers to communicate with members via SMS, email, phone, and WhatsApp.

Design Process
I conducted and synthesized research studies, developed a strategic plan to identify KPIs, guided 3 other designers in rapid wireframing and prototyping to ensure product usability.
Research
We had to test early and iterate often for this project due to the lack of resources for the payer market.
Round 1: Competitive & Comparative Analysis
Defined key metrics to include, namely analytics insights, member segmentation, engagement rates, and etc.
Round 2: User Interviews
Two rounds of interviews were conducted with 3 analytic generalists and 5 physicians. Given that we could not access the payer market for research, we were confident that the results of these interviews combined would be the next best thing to define our users’ problems.
Key insights to help form the personas:
“I need a platform that could gather all the data in one place to help me identify the problems.”
“I have a hard time reaching low-income patients(members).”
“I need to help my patients(members) to be more informed about their health.”
The Problem
Payers want to ensure the best member outcomes by encouraging members to stay on top of their health. Current market solutions are not meeting every need.
Personas
As a manager at Cigna, she wants to achieve better business outcomes by increasing health literacy. She struggles to find the necessary data to increase engagement and track members’ healthcare actions.
Statement: Mina needs a better way to harness data so she can increase company ROI and advance in her career.
Austin is a manager at Medicare/Medicaid, his goal is to create more targeted and customizable campaigns to reach low-income members more impactfully. He gets frustrated because it is hard for him to conclude efficiently to target low-income members with the mass of data.
Statement: Austin needs a better way to engage with his members so he can help them achieve optimal health outcomes.
How Might We
Create a useful and intuitive analytics dashboard that displays vital information in an easy to digest format to help increase member engagement?
Design Goals
Simplify and display mass data in visual charts
Create easy navigation to ensure findability
Feasible data to compare member groups
Measure of Success
100% completion rate on given tasks(see image on the right)
Clarity on locating campaigns and member groups
Understanding of the visual charts and data
Feature prioritization
Hypothesics
We believe that by providing a clean, informative interface that interprets available data into actionable insights, users will be able to turn KPIs into better health outcomes through business decisions. We will know this to be true if users increase their ROI and improve health outcomes through the use of this program.
Testing Results
The first round of testing with mid-fi wireframes had an average System Usability Score of 70.1.
Iterations
1. Increase Visual Hierarchy
Organized and rearranged important data
Created visual and interactive elements and to improve reading patterns and usability
2. Increase Search Efficiency
Replaced filter and sort functions with a search bar as the main faceted navigation
Implemented predictive search and suggested keywords
3. Avoid cumbersomely scrolling
Relocated progress bar to avoid repetition and redundancy
Implemented icons and different colors for a recognizable status view
Outcome
Achieved an "A" or "Excellent" rating on SUS Scores and met design goals.
Take-aways
In a startup environment, it's essential to stay adaptive, know when to pivot, and effectively balance resources and time to navigate constant changes.
